Been walkin' for a while
Wanderin' in the wild
You're holdin' me steady
You keep me goin'
Been walkin' for a while
Followin' the fire
And Your Spirit is within me
And it keeps me goin'
You said it'd be a narrow road
You said it'd be a narrow road
So why am I surprised when it seems I'm on my own?
You said it'd be a narrow road
This world would never be my home
The journey might be lonely, but I'll never be alone
(Chris Renzema, "Narrow Road")
Why are we surprised when we feel alone on a narrow road that we were told few would find?
We go from high highs to low lows in this world, but God is the only thing that's constant.
Personally the Spirit of God keeps me going. I love the road, but I expect it to feel lonely now and again.
When the narrowness hits me, I rest easy in the abundance of love and peace within the narrowness.
If we were never lonely, we'd never feel a deep need for Jesus. We'd patch the yearning with love from other people and things. His love is the only perfect love that satisfies every inch of our souls.
How is it then that we call on Him only in loneliness?
Once you've tasted and seen that kind of love, all you want to do is follow it regardless of how narrow the road. Just as Peter walked on water while keeping His eyes on Jesus, the minute you look over the edge or feel the tight turns, you'll begin to waver. Your eyes must keep following the light of His lamp to keep you on that narrow road. Only then will you gain a fearless faith that keeps you in His perfect will.
This world will never be our home
The journey might be lonely, but we'll never be alone
I know some lonely sojourners right now, and my hat doesn't just come off to you, my heart also fervently intercedes for you. Be of good courage.... you are not alone.
